HwaRang, whose real name is Song JaeWon, is the main rapper, main dancer, and composer of the group, all at the tender age of 20. He’s also extremely talented at songwriting and creating original choreography with various dance forms such as open-style and K-Pop. Needless to say, HwaRang is an all-rounder. When asked about his stage name, HwaRang revealed that since he is the member who is in charge of boosting the energy of the team, he kept that burning energy in mind and came up with the first half of his name “Hwa”. As he put more thought into it, to figure out what would go well with “Hwa”, he created “Hwarang”. Not only does the name have a rich history (it translates to “flower youth” or “flower knight” as you might recall from the K-Drama of the same name, “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth”) but it is also unique and represents his passion for art. In addition, his ethereal visuals paired with his sharp talent are perfectly deserving of such a beautiful name.
