Concept
The concept for this album is duality. There are two distinct sides to the members, their aesthetic as well as the music. According to MIRAE’s agency, DSP Media, these two sides are “HOT” and “COOL”. Concept photos were released in accordance with these two distinct moods as well. The “HOT” version corresponds to the desert biking concept. The members are in a sandy landscape and have a rockstar aesthetic to them. They look fierce and have an intense look. The “COOL” version features the members in lighter clothing, echoing a summery feeling. Their expressions are softer but still impactful. Several other photos were also released ahead of the big release from the filming sets, which can very well be considered B-Cuts from magazine pictorials because the members look just that good!
Fashion and Appearance
The colour palette for one version, the stronger and wilder one, is red and black whereas the softer version features light pastel colours like beige, lilac, mint and so on. The biker aesthetic is definitely a new look and suits the members perfectly well. Lee JunHyuk’s dual-tone black and blonde hair, Jang YuBin’s studded belt, and Khael’s Supreme gloves are subtle yet noticeable additions to their style. The sheer fishnet jackets are a highlight fashion element, sported by both Son DongPyo and Yoo DouHyun. Lien has a tattoo on his arm that says “Clavis Aurea” which literally means “Golden Key”. It is eye-catching and definitely draws attention. The ashy blue highlights on his hair are a great touch. Park SiYoung draws attention with his tie-dye trousers, beret and lavender distressed jeans. The stylist truly has done a great job with this comeback and the fashion is amplifying the effect of the comeback.
Dance and Music Video
The music video for ‘Splash’ begins MIRAE being faced with a massive wave, forming right in front of them. The members anticipate it but do not fear it. From then on, they dive into an incredibly gripping choreography that you simply can’t take your eyes off of. In fact, it is full of killing points that will leave you rewinding and rewatching on repeat because you just can’t get enough. The dance style is predominantly street and hip-hop.
Finally, the music video ends with a bright sunrise, as opposed to the dark wave of the beginning, signifying a new future.
Music
The album is made of 6 songs in total, spanning 20 minutes and 45 seconds. The title song ‘Splash’ was co-written by KARD’s BM alongside Khael, Lee JunHyuk, and other amazing artists. The other songs are ‘Bang-Up’, ‘New Days’, ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘#Secret’ and ‘Sugar.’ Like the concept photos, the songs also have distinct moods. From powerful to bubbly, this mini-album has it all. The rap-line is shining especially brightly for this comeback as well. The vocals, per usual, are amazing too. Stray Kids Are Trailblazers In Latest Comeback With “NOEASY” REVIEWS|Aug 24, 2021
