“From Now On, Showtime!” is a fantasy rom-com. The drama introduces Park HaeJin as Cha ChaWoong, a popular magician that amazes the audience with his tricks. But what they don’t know is that Cha ChaWoong can summon ghosts. Whilst, “The Sound Of Magic” brings us Rieul, a magician who was treated as a myth till Ai (played by Choi SungEun) meets him. He lives in an abandoned amusement park and claims to be a real magician. Both the characters are charismatic performers who amaze their audience with their skills, and both hold supernatural powers. Yet, beyond that, they are completely different personalities. Here are the differences between Park HaeJin’s ChaWoong and Ji ChangWook’s Rieul and why we love both of them.
1. Rieul, The Real Magician Vs ChaWoong, The Shaman
“The Sound Of Magic” introduces Rieul as the real magician. Rieul amazes Yun Ai with his skills. He can make bubbles float in the air and even make people disappear. Rieul is capable of things beyond one’s imagination. Oh and he can sing too! That voice is magic itself that makes the fans swoon. Yet, ChaWoong from “From Now On, Showtime!” is not a magician, but a shaman! His grandfather was one of the greatest shamans and helped many people. Yet, when he falls in trouble, everyone turns their backs on them, so ChaWoong vows to never work as a Shaman and that will help people. Instead, he begins to claim himself to be a magician, a real one, and surprises his audience with mind-blowing tricks. He can escape a water tank with his hands tied and make his lady fly in the air. But what the audience does not know is that all that is done by ghosts.
2. Rieul’s Abandoned Amusement Park Vs ChaWoong’s Mansion
Rieul is the son of two great professors and is financially well off. But the pressure to keep up with being the best is too much for him, so he escapes. Rieul begins to work in an amusement park and continues to live there even after it shuts down. He claims in the first episode that people’s money does not matter to him. The abandoned park is not in great condition, but he still chooses to live there. As for ChaWoong, he adores luxury. His residence can be justly called a mansion and he owns an expensive sleek black car, “G-Class from Genus” as mentioned in the drama. His shows are a big shot and the tickets cost a lot, yet he has people lined up to watch. And he frankly enjoys the money. He takes pride in his wealth, and even in himself, unlike Rieul. Though his priorities begin to change after meeting SuelHae (played by Jin KiJoo).
3. Is Magic A Way Of Healing Or A Great Business?
“The Sound Of Magic” gave us characters whose lives were a nightmare till they met magic. Yun Ai and Na IlDeung (played by Hwang InYoup), are high school students who are unsure about their future and wonder what type of adult they will be in the future. Yet, Rieul is someone who wants to stay in his childhood. Also driven to the edge when he was a teenager, he did not wish to grow up. So the three come to believe in magic and it became to heal their wounds. “From Now On, Showtime!"’s ChaWoong, though, keeps a different point of view. He made a contract with three ghosts and began to use his powers for ‘business’. Soon he was one of the greatest magicians to be known, with many channels lined up to have him on their shows. When his secret gets caught in a cop’s helmet, ChaWoong freaks out, fearing that his business will come to an end. He even forms a pact with Go SeulHae to help her fight the evils of society. Nevertheless, Ji ChangWook and Park HaeJin made the K-Drama fans believe in miracles. Have you watched any of these dramas? What is your favorite thing about both the characters?
