There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Sumayyah is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from the UK and is a fan of THE BOYZ! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more! Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? My name is Sumayyah. I’m 18 years old, and I’m from the UK. How and when did you enter the fandom? I joined the DEOBI (THE B) fandom around either late 2019/early2020, and I lightly stanned them after I was looking at SEVENTEEN videos (mostly the one below), and during their ‘REVEAL’ era. The stanning grew during “Road To Kingdom” … What are the reasons why you love your favorite group? One of the reasons why I love THE BOYZ, is that I mostly see them as not only my favourite role models for music and performance, but also as my Big Brothers, as I never had one before… Even their presence can make you feel like you’re part of a family. In fact, they could be EVERYONE’s “Big Brothers”, as I also see YoungHoon being the “true Big Brother” of former “My Teenage Girl” contestant, Kim YooYeon, based on their personalities, improved skills, and similar visuals. Who caught your attention at first and why? JuYeon caught your attention at first, because it was at their “Road To Kingdom” performance of ‘Danger’ that I immediately saw him as my “true Big Brother”. Since we do have similar visuals, and the same passion for music. I really do wish that he was my Big Brother though… I dream of being on the stage and in “Queendom”, just like him one day. Who is your bias, and why? My bias is all of the members, because all of them have their own uniqueness as both a person, and as a performer. Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans? My recommendations for a title track for new fans, would be their debut song “BOY”, and their pre-debut song “I’m Your Boy”, which signifies a foreshadowing of their great growth into men; in fact, all of their performances on “Road To Kingdom” and “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR” told a story. {THIS IS THE ART OF STORYTELLING! Please look back through all of them. All of their MVs, “Road to Kingdom” performances, and “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR” performances deserve 100M views, like everyone else!!! 🤍🤍🤍.}. Can you recommend a fancam, V-Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers? My recommendation for a fancam of JuYeon and THE BOYZ would be their fancams/cover performance of ‘Mirotic’ on “M COUNTDOWN”, and all of their performances on “Road To Kingdom” and “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR”(from their 1st one (in “Road to Kingdom”) to their last one (in “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR”), leading to their freedom. (YAY!)). Oh, also, if you’re interested in acting, there are also clips of YoungHoon acting on “Love Revolution”, HyunJae acting on “I can see your MBTI”. And HakNyeon’s “Goedam 2” was supposed to be released last year, but it’s currently being delayed. So let’s manifest and hope that we’ll see it on our screens soon… Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group? My recommendation for a content video of THE BOYZ would be their Halloween Videos of ‘THE STEALER’, and ‘MAVERICK’. Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? My favorite lyrics are from ‘Merry Bad Ending’: “Aju meolji aneun gose nega nareul bureun deuthae Girl you know My heart beats, My heart beats for you” Translated: “Not very far away I think you called me Girl you know My heart beats, My heart beats for you” Are there any words from the members you would like to share? ““Make “impossible " to “I’m possible”"(by Eric (THE BOYZ) on “K-Pop Daebak with Eric Nam”). What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life? Right now, I’m nearing the end of my A-Levels(I’m doing maths). On one hand, after seeing them on “Road To Kingdom”, I aspired to debut under their label, “Cre.ker”/debut as their “little sister”; (but I am now considering other agencies. No offence to them, by the way). On the flip side, you see, when I saw that they were robbed of winning “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR”, it filled me with vengeance, and made me work/study twice, triple, and quadruple times as hard, hoping to one day avenge their defeat, (but I will still be humble)… Right now, here and there, even though I set it aside for now, I’m writing a trilogy in sincerity for them, whilst also learning Korean, and writing some song titles, song lyrics, and album titles for my future group too, along with the fact that I’m planning to lose weight, and brighten up my beauty too. Also, whenever I listen to their music, or any other kind of K-Pop, my worries disappear. Hence, in summary, my love for music has grown, for I am a dedicated person, with passion and drive. What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying? My favorite side of fangirling = the excitement of wishing to be there to see them soon, waiting, and anticipating more content/music from them is always worth it! I also hope to get some merch from them too… Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)? I don’t think there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans) that I know of… Though, I do wish that we are civil with each other, and stay strong in unity of the DEOBI fandom. Dear THE BOYZ-sunbaenim, ever since “Road To Kingdom”, I have always seen you as my true Role Models, and my Big Brothers. I aspire to one day debut under your label, as your “little sister”, and as a K-Pop group leader, even if my chances are slim, (for my age, backstory, and autism). Despite all of the troubles life throws at me, you, your music, and presence always keep me at peace. I also want to be a singer/person who brings happiness with her music/art, and I will do it with a dogged spirit that never gives up, just like you all. Thanks to you, my courage, and enthusiasm for music has evolved more than ever. Just remember, you’re an inspiration to your home, the world, the next generation, and yourselves. You’re the next BTS.
