While we wait for the group to have a comeback, here are 7 times BLACKPINK amazed fans with their cooking skills.
1. The Entire Group - Two-Tone Macarons
BLINKs were given a very special treat when it was announced BLACKPINK would have their own variety show that would be broadcasted on JTBC and released on YouTube from January to August of 2018. “BLACKPINK HOUSE” centred around the daily lives and exciting adventures of the four members of BLACKPINK after they are allowed to go on a vacation, the title of the show coming from the pink house that was built for the girls to live in for their vacation. In the very first episode of the show, the girls decide they want to make special treats for the neighbouring residents after they move into their new house. Feeling very fancy, the members decide to make classic French macarons. These aren’t just any macarons but they are strawberry and chocolate macarons that are black and pink (get it?). The members get to work making the macarons in their signature colours and although macarons are notoriously known for being a hard dessert to make, BLACKPINK can flawlessly complete these macarons. Sprinkle in a few cute interactions between the members and this is one of the cutest videos from the group ever. Hopefully, the neighbours enjoyed BLACKPINK’s sweet treats. This isn’t the only time they will be making good food. As you go down the list, there will be plenty more moments from the show where the girls show their culinary expertise.
2. The Entire Group - Kimchi Fried Rice
BLACKPINK can also make great savoury dishes too! In the eighth episode of “BLACKPINK HOUSE,” the members decide to go grocery shopping and get the ingredients to make kimchi fried rice, a delicious staple of Korean cuisine. Walking into a grocery store and seeing the members of BLACKPINK would be a dream come true. After getting everything they need, the members return to the house with snacks and food aplenty. It was so cute to see the girls work together as a team by cutting and cooking different aspects. Although Lisa struggled a bit when cooking the meat, the members came to her aid and gave helpful tips. The members are able to make the fried rice alongside some cut fruits and green peppers. We love seeing BLACKPINK work well as a team on and off-stage and this video was a prime example of that.
3. Jennie - Pancakes
Throughout “BLACKPINK HOUSE,” all the girls become more knowledgeable in cooking techniques and skills. This time in the ninth episode, Jennie wants to try her hand at making pancakes as a little treat for the members. Jennie gives fans a cooking show in the kitchen while the other members are upstairs in their room cleaning. Making the batter is no problem but it’s flipping the pancakes where she begins to have some trouble. However, Jennie does not give up and is able to triumphantly make enough pancakes for the group’s breakfast. It is impossible to mention Jennie without her fashionable clothes and the cute blue sweater she’s wearing in the video is very casual chic. Everyone is incredibly pleased with Jennie’s pancakes and they all end up eating together at the table. If you want to do something together with your friends, have a day inspired by BLACKPINK where you decorate and eat pancakes together.
4. Lisa - Tom Yum Instant Noodles
Not only is BLACKPINK’s Lisa a true dancing queen, but she also knows how to cook a mean instant noodle dish. In this clip for a Charm TV variety show she was starring in, Lisa suddenly gets a craving for Tom Yum instant noodles and we don’t blame her. While the noodles boil, Lisa proves she is an all-rounded idol by spontaneously dancing, singing and rapping to ‘As If It’s Your Last.’ The noodles looked so steamy and made everyone watching at home start craving instant noodles. Even though Lisa herself admitted she isn’t the best chef, we can applaud her for being able to successfully cook ramyun. She alludes in the video to wanting to cook pasta like iKon’s Jay did so hopefully soon we can see her try making a variety of dishes.
5. Jennie and JiSoo - Tanghulu
In BLACKPINK’s Netflix documentary “BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky,” Jennie and JiSoo work together to make Tanghulu, a candied fruit snack. In the clip, they are shown to be making a grape version of the traditional Chinese dessert. They even reveal that they previously almost started a fire once making Tanghulu but thankfully no fires were present this time around. The clips of them cooking are interspersed between clips of Jennie talking about JiSoo’s process with learning English. It’s incredibly heartwarming to see Jennie be prideful about her member’s progress in learning a new language. To describe the Tanghulu they made, JiSoo herself says in English they are “Not bad but not good.” Not every recipe can go all according to plan but at least we got to see these two have fun together.
6. Jennie and JiSoo - Mandu
Jennie and JiSoo once again team up to make another dish, this time Korean dumplings known as mandu. The video was posted onto Jennie’s personal YouTube channel where she constantly vlogs and shows us an inside look into her life and career endeavours. JiSoo joins her in this vlog to make mandu and this solidified our love for the two’s friendship. It’s always so nice to see the two eldest members joke with one another and their friendship is one of our favourite pairings in the group. After all the cooking is finished, Jennie and JiSoo share a mini-mukbang and eat their dumplings alongside some kimchi and bread. If BLACKPINK decided one day to start making official mukbangs, nobody would object to that idea at all.
7. Rosé - Financiers and Madeleines
The latest video focusing on a BLACKPINK member baking comes none other than from Rosé. The talented main vocalist of the group has been blessing fans on her personal YouTube channel with behind-the-scenes videos and song covers but she finally posted her first vlog for her channel this month. Fans watch Rosé as she takes a one-day baking class to learn how to make madeleines and financiers, two traditional French desserts. Madeleines are small French shell-shaped cookies and financiers are small French almond cakes. Watching Rosé retain her cheerful and bubbly personality while exhibiting how to make these delicate French baked goods was a real treat for fans to watch. At the end of the vlog, Rosé tastes everything and is very pleased with the final desserts she made. I don’t know about you but watching Rosé make financiers and madeleines have certainly inspired me to make these desserts now!
