One of the major aspects that leads to the success of K-Dramas has been its casting. In the last couple of years, we have seen a great crossover of idols venturing into the acting world in a bid to showcase their budding talents and thrill the hearts of viewers. This continues to be a welcomed and lauded idea as many of these idols have shown they can bring the same charismatic energy and exceptional performances they are known for on the stage to the screens. While there are no doubt many idols who will star in a series in 2023, here are some of the idols who as of the date of this article have no casting news for 2023 yet but we surely want to see on our screens again.
1. ASTRO’s Rocky
Actor Rocky undoubtedly left a stamp in the hearts of many drama lovers with his impressive role as HwiYeon in the web drama series “Broke Rookie Star”. A feat that is not surprising, as many have come to always expect a stellar performance from the hardworking idol whose passion is glaringly clear in everything he does. However, like us, many were also visibly in awe and admiration of his delivery as HwiYeon, a character who made us laugh, reflect, and also strive further in pursuit of our dreams. Rocky’s steady growth as an actor is unmistakable as we’ve seen with the various roles he’s played over the years and in 2023, we would love to see him star in another drama. More specifically, a dark thriller drama. This could give him an opportunity to show an expressive range of emotions and his growing yet flexible acting skills that will surely earn him due recognition as a potential acting-dol with immense talents.
2. SF9’s DaWon
It seems SF9 are solidifying their acting-dol status as 90 percent of its members have starred in multiple dramas over the years. DaWon is one of the idols whose charming nature effortlessly seeps through, regardless of the stage he performs. He shined so brightly with his role as Tak SunKyung in the fantasy drama series “Doom At Your Service” in 2021 and as Ki SeonHo in the web drama “Part Time Mello”. In these dramas, he showed off his budding acting skills and his ability to play a good range of roles. He could easily be the comical and chaotic sibling who makes us laugh or the leading heartthrob whose charms we all want to date. In 2023, we hope he picks up a script and continues to thrill the hearts of fans with his budding skills. A supporting role in an office rom-com will suit him well.
3. TREASURE’s Haruto
There is no denying that Haruto has the budding traits of a good actor. Asides from the pure thrill and entertainment value that “The Mysterious Class” provided, it also put actor Haruto on the radar of many viewers and fans, and has given rise to an almost global outcry for him to grace our screens again and have opportunities to hone his acting skills. In 2023, perhaps we can finally see him make a comeback in a drama. Playing any role in a similar mystical/fantasy series like “The Mysterious Class”, a webtoon or anime-based drama, or a high teen series will all be an interesting and exciting option for him.
4. ATEEZ’s YunHo
YunHo made an impressive debut as Lee YuJin in the idol drama series “Imitation” back in 2021. His portrayal of his character was so good that many believe it was the birth of actor YunHo, who undoubtedly possesses the physical appearance and charms of a leading heartthrob. And even though 2022 has undoubtedly been one of the busiest years for ATEEZ, with successful multiple world tours and comebacks, we would have also loved to see YunHo star in another drama and continue to build up the interest that many have in him eventually becoming an acting-dol. In 2023, a role in a teen or college romance drama that focuses on the interpersonal struggles of the youths today would be an interesting casting idea for him.
5. N.Flying’s Lee SeungHyub
Lee SeungHyub did not just leave many in awe of his Greek god-like physique in the hit drama “Shting Stars”, he also amazed many with his impressive acting skills as Kang SiDeok, a cook turned actor. Fully immersing himself into the character, even though he had a support role in the series, his scenes were noteworthy as the interest of many was piqued by his refreshing storyline. With a long list of impressive roles he’s played in his filmography, in 2023, we hope he makes another comeback as an actor. While “Shting Stars” could pass as an “office romance drama”, we would love to see Lee SeungHyub star in an office rom-com in 2023. With his towering physique, stunning visuals, deep vocal tone, and winsome personality, in real life, he already poses traits that make him the leading man in the hearts of many fans, and transmitting that to a series would be a brilliant idea.
6. PENTAGON’s YeoOne
YeoOne has slowly but steadily been making head waves as a budding actor. Having made his acting debut with the web drama series “Spark” in 2016, he’s been a regular face in web dramas, taking up main or supporting roles and delivering amazing performances that have made him one to surely pay attention to. His recent work in the web drama “Idol Living In My Room” is also gaining him tons of positive compliments from fans and viewers of the series. YeoOne has a certain poise and elegance that makes him look princely and noble-like and in 2023, we would love to see him starring in a historical drama. We hope he continues to showcase his budding acting skills and perhaps also earn his breakthrough role as an actor as well.
7. VICTON’s SuBin
Looking at the roles SuBin has played, it is no doubt that he has the talents and charms that make for a fine actor. Since he made his acting debut in the web drama “The Guilty Secret” in 2019, he has shown his impressive acting colors by starring in a variety of roles in both TV and Web dramas. In 2023, we hope he continues on this path as well, taking up challenging roles that would invariably lead to his growth as an actor and also gain him prominent recognition as a rising star as well.
