From the writer of the critically acclaimed “My Mister”, “My Liberation Notes” is a slice of life drama that follows the life of three siblings from the suburbs who are exhausted from their mundane Sisyphian routine. Things start to look different when a mysterious stranger moves into the neighborhood. They go through life as they juggle work, love, family, purpose, and identity. Amidst the airing of various amazing K-Dramas, here are 5 reasons why you should tune in to “My Liberation Notes”.
1. A Stellar Cast
The cast for “My Liberation Notes” is more than enough to make viewers look forward to the show. Superstar Kim JiWon makes her return to dramas as the ordinary, mundane office woman Yeom MiJeong. The amazing Lee MinKi is portraying the brother Yeom ChangHee, and the exquisite Lee El as Yeom KiJung. The three characters with their exhausting emotions and stagnant life are acted out so well by the cast that you will not be able to turn away.
2. A Mature Slice Of Life
Amidst the “too good to be true” and magical fantasies, “My Liberation Notes” comes with a refreshing vibe, however ironic that may be. The K-Drama is a beautiful slice of life that takes on that feeling of being stuck, lost, stagnant, with an uncomfortable yet endearing realness. Even though the drama starts off with a depressing and gloomy tone, one is immediately immersed in it and rooting for the characters’ journey. It shows the struggle to fit in, the wish to seek a genuine companionship in all its tiring glory, and the question of purpose and futility is what makes it so relatable to everyone watching. The problems these three siblings face and their different longings are something most of us go through at some point in our lives and seeing that represented on screen makes it worth a watch and perhaps a healing watch.
3. Beautiful Cinematography
A good K-Drama gets better if the cinematography is great. Right off the bat the beautiful shots of the show grabs your attention. The scenic beauty and greenery of the suburbs and the dark, loneliness of the city life is captured perfectly.
4. An underrated OST lineup
“My Liberation Notes” has a very indie lineup of featuring artists thus far. The released OSTs are by artists such as HEN, Jung HyungLee, Shin YouMe. All these artists have given some amazing soundtracks and are hidden gems for sure.
5. A slow laid back K-Drama
“My Liberation Notes” is definitely a slow burn laid-back affair. Its first four episodes had many moments of silences between conversations and moments where it’s just the characters and their eyes talking. This becomes part of its reflective element as the characters make sense of their boring lives. It becomes a good watch when you’re trying to unwind at the end of the weekend.
