“The Second World” is a music competition program where female K-Pop idol rappers go head to head in a singing competition. Through each performance, they break the prejudice that idol rappers are unable to sing and showcase their impressive vocal abilities. The lineup includes former Wonder Girls’ YuBin, former AOA member Shin JiMin, MAMAMOO’s MoonByul, WJSN’s Exy, MOMOLAND’s JooE, Billlie’s Moon SuA, OH MY GIRL’s Mimi, and CLASS:y’s Kim SeonYou. With five episodes out so far, there have been numerous performances by these talented girl group members that have caught the eye of viewers and judges alike. These idol rappers have certainly proven that they, in fact, can sing and are skilled enough to stand on stage as a vocalist. Due to the sheer number, we’ve narrowed it down to five performances that showcase these rappers’ vocal talents.

1. MAMAMOO’s MoonByul - ‘On My Way’

For the first stage, contestants showcased their smooth rap skills as an introduction to the show. MoonByul did not disappoint as she commanded the stage from beginning to end. On top of a groovy, laid-back beat, she delivered her singing rap perfectly and weaved in audience interaction to elevate the hype. With an opening performance like that, future stages are bound to just get better and better.

2. YuBin - ‘Invitation’

There’s a reason why YuBin has been able to remain in the music industry for such a long time. Her veteran experience and stage presence shines in this rendition of Uhm JungHwa’s ‘Invitation’. YuBin first draws you in with her powerful rapping before keeping you ensnared with her sultry vocals. The track is enticing and fun, making it difficult to turn away from her incredible performance.

3. Billlie’s Moon SuA - ‘The Truth Untold’

Prior to debut, Moon SuA showcased her impressive rap skills even as a high school student through “Unpretty Rapstar 2”. Now, just over seven years later, she shows that she’s more than just a rapper but a stable vocalist, too. Her performance is mesmerizing and for long time fans a moment of validation as Sua proves she is a mutli-talented artist. Whether it’s a soft, tender ballad or a hype, energetic dance track, Sua was made for the stage.

4. OH MY GIRL’s Mimi & CLASS:y’s Kim SeonYou - Savior

Mimi and Kim SeonYou challenge themselves by incorporating modern dance, a genre we rarely see from K-Pop acts. Their singing and pretty dance lines make their performance dream-like and give the feeling of floating on a cloud. Their collaboration stage showcases their amazing teamwork and brings a chilling comfort, perfect for this autumn season.

5. MAMAMOO’s MoonByul & WJSN’s Exy - Energetic

MoonByul and Exy started slaying the stage right from the intro. While it helps that the song is iconic, the two idol rappers’ charismatic energy shone on stage. They maintained the original feel to the track while adding their own spin to showcase their unique, individual vocal colors. This pairing was deadly and one we would definitely love to see again.
