It is a youth romance about a girl who dreams of fateful love and a guy who suffers from trauma stemming from school violence. The web drama is originally based on a webtoon of the same name (러브앤위시 in Korean) by author INE. You can read it in Korean here and in French here. Although the webtoon and web drama are not exactly the same, none of the differences drastically change the story. However, you might find some of the differences interesting. So, here is a randomly ordered list of 4 differences between the “Love & Wish” web drama and the webtoon. WARNING: This article may contain spoilers for episodes 1-6 of the web drama and episodes 1-3 of the webtoon.
1. DaEun’s outlook on love before meeting SeungHyu
In the webtoon, DaEun was purposefully hoping to fall in love. She would read romantic comics, watch romantic movies, and listen to love songs in hopes of achieving the same. This kind of makes it seem like she was purposefully looking for someone to fall in love with because she fantasized about it so much. However, in the drama, her desire to fall in love was not as emphasized and she just so happened to fall for SeungHyu.
2. Details from the elevator scene when they first met
In the webtoon, DaEun lives on the 15th floor and SeungHyu lives on the floor below her, the 14th floor. In the drama, DaEun lives on the 6th floor and SeungHyu lives above her on the 7th floor. When she drops the grocery bag in the webtoon, they also have a longer moment when their eyes meet and they are actually looking at each other. Whereas, in the drama, DaEun is so flustered that she avoids eye contact with him and only steals glimpses at what he looks like.
3. Nara and HanNa’s idea of SeungHyu
In the webtoon, Nara and HanNa explicitly shared their opinions about SeungHyu. They had told DaEun not to pay attention to SeungHyu because they think he’s weird, which made her hesitate a bit about approaching him. As a result, DaEun became self-conscious about when to approach and talk to him. In the drama, Nara and HanNa just told DaEun SeungHyu’s name and didn’t give any opinions of him. They seemed hesitant about DaEun becoming close with SeungHyu but, in the first couple of episodes, they never prevented her from getting to know him.
4. The way DaEun and YuIl interact with each other at first
DaEun seems more willing to speak to YuIl in the webtoon at first. They have a lot of exchanges where it seems like they are catching up with each other (they even exchanged phone numbers), whereas in the drama that is not the case. At first, in the drama, after DaEun recognizes YuIl she seems to avoid speaking to him or is very curt and sometimes just civil towards him. These are only a few of the differences that we’ve spotted. Have you spotted any other differences between the drama and the webtoon for “Love & Wish”? What do you think of the differences?
