“Why Her?” premiered with a bang, ranking highest in it’s slot by scoring an average rating of 6.0% nationwide. The drama is a full package of entertainment, with mystery that keeps the viewer on the edge. After the release of the first two episodes, Kpopmap gathered reasons why “Why Her?” is worth the hype and a must to watch! This article contains spoilers.
1. “Why Her?” Grasps The Attention Of The Viewers With It’s Intriguing Story Line
“Why Her?” introduces Oh SooJae (Seo HyunJin), who is the youngest partner in TK Law Firm. She is known to win any case on her own hand, but she is also heavily criticized. When SooJae gets involved a huge scandal, she is demoted to become a professor at a law school. There she meets Gong Chan (Hwang InYoup), a student who falls for her and is ready to do anything for her. The twists and suspense in the drama make it a must to watch. It has viewers eagerly waiting for the next episodes to air. And not to forget, the chemistry between the lead characters and the development of their love story has already begun to stir butterflies!
2. “Why Her?” Displays A Complex Character As The Female Lead
Though K-Dramas have often shown dominant career women or even female characters that give off a cold vibe, “Why Her?"’s SooJae is different. Unlike many female leads, she is a grey character, someone who took a wrong turn in life. She has joined the race for power and does nor hesitate to hurt someone for it. In episode 1, her secret boyfriend, an assembly man, Ahn KangWon (Lee TaeSung) is accused of raping a bar hostess, Park SoYoung (Hong JiYoon). Oh SooJae is chosen to deal with the case and to make her quiet. Though it did seem that SoYoung was really the victim, Oh SooJae threatens her with her family and convinces her to take her allegations back. Furthermore, Oh SooJae often appears either with a blank expression or a pretentious smile. Her facial expression seem to define her personality, she often has a blank face or at times there is even arrogance but there are times where we see her trembling or in tears, but she hides it from others. She would never let anyone see herself in pain. In the opening scene of the drama, we see her wiping the blood off her face though she is trembling in the bathroom. As soon as she exits the building, she has a straight posture and a blank expression. But it is not that she does not feel anything. After witnessing the death of Park SoYoung she is shaken up and had nightmares of the incident. She is also shown to be loved by some people in her life, further in the drama, we do expect to see a soft side of hers. To sum it all up, she is a nice person but in order to survive she had to become or appear heartless.
3. Hwang InYoup Appears As An Adorable Lover Boy
Hwang InYoup’s character Gong Chan is introduced by the end of episode 1, when he accidentally drops the box of fish before SooJae’s table. To which SooJae, who was already emotionally overwhelmed, slapped him across the face. Yet, he held no grudge against her. The two meet again when Oh SooJae turns up as the professor of his class. Gong Chan is stunned and he gazes at her. Though it is soon revealed that the couple’s first meeting happened long before. Oh SooJae was in fact the lawyer representing Gong Chan during her early days as a lawyer. And Gong Chan has liked her since then, because Oh SooJae was the only one to believe him when everyone else turned against him. Gong Chan acts like an adorable lover boy around SooJae. He is concerned that her class may get canceled and follows her everywhere. In episode 2, when SooJae is being harassed by a colleague, Gong Chan immediately jumps in to save her. By the end of the episode he even confesses his feelings for her! “Why Her?” shows the dark side of the world, law in particular. A world where everyone is on the run for power, just like Oh SooJae, but her route changes after she meets Gong Chan. And we are interested in knowing how the story will proceed.
