- “Itaewon Class” The webtoon “Itaewon Class” (in Korean “이태원 클라쓰”) was adapted into a drama. It tells the story of young people who are united in stubbornness and courage starting a food-related business in Itaewon. “Itaewon Class” drama’s producer is Kim SungYoon, he previously worked for the popular drama “Love in the Moonlight”. The drama aired on cable channel JTBC (available on Netflix) from Jan .31 with Park SeoJoon, Kim DaMi, Yoo JaeMyung, and more. - “Mystic Pop-up Bar” The fantasy and food webtoon “Mystic Pop-up Bar” (in Korean “쌍갑포차”) was adapted into a drama. The webtoon tells the stories that happen at a pocha (outdoor bar) which is appearing late at night and in strange places. The drama aired on the cable channel JTBC (available on Netflix) from May 20 with BTOB‘s Yook SungJae, Hwang JungEum and more. - “Meow, The Secret Boy” The romance webtoon “Meow, The Secret Boy” (in Korean “어서와”) was announced to be adapted into a drama back in 2018 and aired in 2020. The love story of HongJo a cat that turns into a man and SolAh a woman who is like a puppy. The drama was planned to be broadcast on tvN with the title “The Man Baking Bread”. However, there had been some changes in plans. It is aired from Mar. 25 on KBS with INFINITE’s L (Kim MyungSoo), Shin YeEun, and Seo JiHoon. - “Memorist” The webtoon “Memorist” (In Korean “메모리스트”) by JaeHoo is a fantasy thriller action. It tells the story of detective DongBaek who has the supernatural power of reading memories. He is facing mysterious serial murder cases. The drama is aired from Mar. 11 on tvN with Yoo SeungHo and Lee SeYoung. Producer So JaeHyun who was in charge of planning “Stranger” and “100 Days my Prince” as well as producing “Eunju’s Room” was co-directing with director Kim Hwi (“Haeundae”, “Horror Stories II”, etc). - “Rugal” The action sci-fi webtoon “Rugal” (in Korean “루갈”) by Rel.mae was adapted into a drama this year. It tells the story of a special organization called “Rugal” which brings together humans weapons who earned special ability through bioengineering technology fighting against the largest terrorist group of ROK named Argus. The drama aired from Mar. 28 on OCN (available on Netflix) with Choi JinHyuk, Park SungWoong, and Jo DongHyuk. - “True Beauty” “True Beauty” (in Korean “여신강림”) is a popular webtoon worldwide and was adapted into drama this year. The webtoon was translated into 4 languages and tops the webtoon liked by international readers. It tells the story of a girl that turns into a goddess thanks to makeup skills. The drama was produced by the production company BonFactory and by Studio N. ASTRO’s Cha EunWoo, Moon GaYoung, and Hwang InYeop are the lead actors. It started to air in December on tvN. - “Backstreet Rookie" The romantic comedy webtoon “Backstreet Rookie” (also called “Convenience Store SaetByul”) (in Korean “편의점 샛별이”) was adapted into a drama. It tells the romance between a four-dimensional innocent femme fatale part-timer and a handsome sloppy manager. Producer Lee MyungWoo (“Fashion King”, “You’re Surrounded”) is in charge. - “Sweet Home” The popular thriller horror webtoon “Sweet Home” (in Korean “스위트홈”) by Carnby Kim and YoungChan Hwang was adapted into drama this year. It tells the story of a loner high school student who lost his family and the bizarre and shocking things that happened to him in his new flat. Song Kang, Lee DoHyun, Lee SiYoung, Lee JinWook, and more are cast in this Netflix Original Series. Lee EungBok director of “Descendants of the Sun”, “Goblin” and “Mr. Sunshine” is in charge. - “How to Buy A Friend” The webtoon “How to Buy A Friend” (in Korean “계약우정”) by Kwon Laad was adapted into a drama. It depicts the dark sides of love and society during the fresh adolescence period from the perspective of two high school students Park ChanHong and Heo DonHyuk. The drama aired on KBS from Apr. 6. - “Pop Out Boy!” The webtoon “The Girl and the Boy Coming Out Of Manga” (in Korean 만찢남녀) by NimNi was adapted into a web drama “Pop Out Boy!”. It tells the romance of Chun NamWook the main male character of a manga of more than 10 years old who appears in front of the high school girl Han SunNyeo. Playlist Studio (“A-Teen“, “Love Playlist“, “XX“, and more) produced the web drama with Kim MinKyu and Weki Meki‘s DoYeon as the lead actors. The drama started on June 25. - “The World of My 17” The webtoon “The World of My 17” also called “Girl’s World” (in Korean “소녀의 세계”) by Morangji was adapted into a web drama. It tells the stories that happened to the usual high school girl, Nari, after she got close to pretty friends YuNa, SeonJi, and MiRae. - “In Your Dream” The fantasy romance webtoon “In Your Dream” (in Korean “인 유어 드림”) by Kim KwangMin and DoRang was adapted into a web drama. It tells the story of No JunSu who is running a coffee shop. One day he witnessed the car accident of Yoo NamHee for who he has a one-sided love. To save her from the coma, he decided to join the yet-to-be verified medical project call “In Your Dream”. The drama aired on OllehTV and OTT. Actress Bae NooRi and Lee JongWon were cast. - “Sometoon 2020” “Sometoon x OH MY GIRL” was adapted to a web drama but only partially as it was only Binnie’s story which will make it on screen. The web drama “Sometoon 2020” (in Korean “썸툰 2020”) is the love triangle romance that takes place when YeJin went to search for her long-time online friend named “Sweet Brick”. She does not know if he is the member of her craftwork class named No Woon or the man she often meets by chance named Cha Ieon. OH MY GIRL’s Binnie, Jung WooJin, and Ki TaeHwa are the lead actors.
